Reminder for GPS equipment

Alert message sent 04/05/2022 12:38:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Please Note – GPS equipment is still covered in insurance claims even if they have been removed from the vehicle as they are classed as an integral part of the vehicle. The message for our rural communities is that these items should be removed from vehicles and if still stolen then the victim is still covered by NFU insurance.

To protect GPS systems from thieves, the NFU are issuing the following advice:

Remove GPS kit where practicable and store securely overnight
Activate PIN security on GPS kit with your own unique number if available
Overtly mark your postcode and farm name to deter thieves and trace your property back to you
Keep tractors and combines out of sight - preferably in a locked barn when not in use
Record serial numbers and photograph your kit
Check serial numbers of second-hand kit offered for sale
Report sightings of suspicious activity in fields and farmyards to police

We also urge farmers to report suspicious activity including drones over farms, vehicles visiting that are not known to the farm, or trespassers on 101, and if a crime is taking place call 999.
