Operation Truesun

Alert message sent 29/04/2022 22:05:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Operation Truesun is the Neighbourhood Policing Operation covering Alum Rock Road and Ladypool Road during Chaand Raat and Eid.
It is a local policing operation where Neighbourhood Officers who know the community will be out engaging and conducting patrols from the 30th April until the 4th May 2022. We will also  have support from Force Resources that will include Traffic Motorbikes and Drones on Chaand Raat.
This is a family event where we will see large numbers of the community coming together and preparing for their celebrations. From planning meetings with the community and experience from last year it has been highlighted that previous issues have included low level ASB such as young people gathering and setting off fireworks and careless driving linked you young people attending in hire vehicles, hanging out of windows, playing loud music, revving engines and causing congestion which disturbs residents until the early hours.
Through our planning the community have been really clear this is not part of the celebrations and they do not want this kind of behaviour and have asked for a zero tolerance approach. To be clear Officers will take a tolerant approach and engage with those committing ASB and warn them regarding behaviour. However drivers will be given one warning and if they are seen driving in a careless and anti-social manner we will take action utilising Section 50 of the Police Reform Act to request details and Section 59 of the Police Reform Act to seize vehicles. We will also utilise powers under the Road Traffic Act 1988 if offences are committed and will check driving documents. We will also issue Fixed Penalty Notices for obstructions and parking offences such as obstructing crossings/markings.
We look forward to seeing everyone over the next few days but if you intend to spend the evening driving up and down and causing a nuisance you can look forward to walking home and a fee to release vehicles after they have been seized.
