Rothercare Scam Calls

Alert message sent 27/04/2022 12:39:00

Information sent on behalf of South Yorkshire Police

Recently we have been made aware of some calls being made by persons either claiming they are from Rothercare – Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council’s community alarm service, or claiming that they are from NHS or a private company and informing people that they are eligible for a pendant alarm.

Once they have been speaking with the caller, they have then been asking for their bank details.

We are sending out an alert today to confirm that these are scam calls, and Rothercare would never ring to ask for bank details or to ask you to purchase any equipment.

Any payments relating to the Rothercare Service , would be arranged through official Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council invoices and documentation, and never by telephone.

Rothercare do not ring people to ‘sign up’ to the service. People can access the service through enquiring directly themselves, or by having a referral submitted on their behalf.

We advise should you receive a call like this, you do not share any of your personal details, including your bank details and you end the call as soon as possible.

If you want to check if this was a legitimate call , please press the buzzer on any Rothercare equipment you already have to connect to a member of Rothercare staff who will provide reassurance and answer any questions or concerns.

Alternatively, you can call Rothercare directly on 01709 371897. Rothercare are available 24 hours 7 days a week.

Some landline providers do offer a feature known as ‘call rejection’ or ‘call blocker’ to prevent any unwanted or unknown numbers being able to ring through. You can call your provider directly to see whether this option is available should you be interested.

We encourage you to share this advice with family members, friends, or neighbours who may be targeted.

Thank you.
