Street-watch and Neighborhood watch groups

Alert message sent 27/04/2022 09:53:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear residents of Bilston,

We are looking to generate more Street-watch and Neighbourhood watch groups in the area, please see the below information regarding both schemes,

Street-Watch is a community led project. It’s made up of groups of volunteers who are at least 18 years old.

The groups go out and patrol their area. The patrols help to stop crime and anti-social behaviour. They also help people in the area get to know each other.

Patrols are always done with at least two people, with a member of each group being the coordinator. Police in the local area work with the groups, and will go out on patrol with them at least twice a month.

If the group see's suspicious or criminal activity, they report it to us the Police

A Street-Watch group is non confrontational and will never be physically involved, they will just act as eyes and ears and report to the Police to help tackle crime.

We currently have three Street-watch groups in the Bilston area, Hawkswell Drive Street-Watch Group, Barton industrial Estate Street-Watch Group and Chiltern Drive Street-Watch Group.

All of these groups are situated in the North area of Bilston, if you're interested in joining one of these groups, the more the merrier.

If you wish to start a fresh group, please let me know, we're looking to start at least one group in the Bradley area.

If you’d like to be involved in Street-Watch, please make contact with myself, either via this messaging service or my work email address, gavin.chandler@westmidlands.police.uk

We are also looking to create more Neighbourhood watch groups in the Bilston, the paragraph below explains what a group is about,

What is a Neighbourhood watch group?

Neighbourhood Watch is about people getting together with their neighbours to take action to reduce crime. They're community initiatives owned and run by their members which are supported by the police but not owned by them, although we sometimes run them.

Groups can run either on line through social media or meet up at a designated location to discuss what's happening in the area, often feeding intelligence and knowledge, which the Police can use to detect and fight crime in the area. A group will also have other matters on it's agenda such as Anti social behaviour, Environmental problems and feed back important issues to the Police or their partner agents, depending on the nature of what's reported.

If you're interested in starting a group, please make contact and I'll help founding your group.

Hope to hear from an interested party soon,

Kind regards PCSO 31005 Gavin Chandler
