Road incident near Okehampton

Cyclist sustained serious injuries
Police have been notified of an incident which took place at around 4.20pm on Sunday 27 February 2022 near Okehampton.
An 11-year-old cyclist was travelling down Rockey Lane/Harper's Hill in Northlew, by the bridge over the River Lew when he had to take evasive action to avoid a blue car on the bridge.
The boy collided with the hedge and ended up in the river beyond the hedge and as a result, has sustained serious and life changing injuries.
The car did not stop at the scene and officers are keen to speak to the driver and anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit attended the scene and commenced an investigation to establish the cause of the collision.
Any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the collision who may have witnessed the incident or Dash Cam footage of the incident are asked to please telephone 101 quoting Log 231 14 March 2022.
