Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Hi,

There have been a few things happening on and around St Matthews recently.

Firstly, there has been an increase on the estate in the number of cars having money and belongings stolen during the night. The vehicles are usually left insecure which makes it very easy for someone to take your goods. Can we please request that you are very careful when you leave your vehicle, make sure there is NOTHING on show, even if it is just a few pounds or an old jacket, and ensure your doors are LOCKED.

There has been a big increase in reports across the wider area of the city of distraction thefts around ATM machines.

You need to be AWARE when you use a cashpoint machine as you may think it is ok to use but when you enter your PIN is there someone distracting you, asking you to enter your PIN again and your card doesn’t return? They then walk away with your card and PIN to another ATM to withdraw money before you have had time to realise what’s happened.

• Please be aware of the area around the ATM before you use it.

• Check for any persons hanging around the machine?

• Check for any camera devices, extra card reader device or trap device on the cash slot?

Finally, just a quick mention of two groups on the estate that you may be interested in joining:

PC Nick Whitehead has set up a running group with Leicester City in the Community for runners/walkers of all abilities, meeting on TUESDAYS 11:30-12:30 outside CARLEY CHURCH on WHARF STREET NORTH. This is FREE! and everyone is welcome.

PCSO Karen Reed runs a Ladies Café with other members of the community for anyone interested in making new friends, joining in our various activities or just a chat. We are currently focusing on health and fitness at the Café with two lovely ladies, Sarah and Ora from Leicester City in the Community helping us out.

We are a VERY friendly bunch and welcome all ladies on St Matthews. The café is held at the COMMUNITY CENTRE on MALABAR ROAD on WEDNESDAYS 12:30-14:30 and is FREE!

Have a lovely day everyone.

Kind regards,

Karen, Nick and Reg
