NO KID SAID

Alert message sent 22/08/2021 10:58:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

Bit of a different message today, its Sunday, time to reflect on the week that has been.
I spent a lot of time last week with kids in care, those who have moved on from care, and those working in the care sector.

WHY? I want to play my part in improving outcomes and breaking down barriers. Often the Police come into contact with our looked after young people during a crisis period, a time when they most need support, but when they are communicating their distress through their behaviour, which can be pretty extreme and difficult to understand.
Understanding what we are dealing with is important, trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) are more common than you might think, compassionate and empathic responses are vital.

We all have the gift of being that one significant positive influence in a young person's life. Being a buffer against life's adversities, just listening, understanding and not being judgemental, can mean the difference between a young person managing their experiences or them defining future outcomes. Police have a big part to play as corporate parents, but we need a "whole community" effort.

NO KID SAID

When I grow up I want a rotten life
When I grow up I want to hurt people
When I grow up I want violence & chaos as my daily routine
When I grow up I want to live in constant fear
When I grow up I want to live with addiction
When I grow up I want to live with the shame and guilt of the worst things I have done
When I grow up I want to communicate with my kids from prison
When I grow up I want my kids to have a rotten life

Hope you enjoy the alert, but more than that why not set yourself a target of DOING something in the coming week that makes a difference to a kid's life. If we all do one tiny thing that will be 160,000 positive acts in West Lothian alone!!
