Man charged in connection with reported sexual assault in Bournemouth

Alert message sent 19/07/2021 11:36:00

Information sent on behalf of Dorset Alert

A man has been charged in connection with a report of sexual assault on a woman in Bournemouth.

It was reported that at around 2.25am on Wednesday 7 July 2021 the victim – a young woman – was approached by a man as she walked along Charminster Road.

The man then walked with the victim along Heron Court Road and it was reported that he made several attempts to kiss the woman before sexually assaulting her at an address in Markham Road.

Following enquiries, led by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), a 23-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Following close consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Dorset Police has been authorised to charge the man with attempted rape and sexual assault. He was due to appear before Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 16 July 2021.

Detective Inspector Simon Huxter, of MCIT, said: “We would like to thank the public for helping with our investigation and sharing our appeals.

“This matter is now subject to a court process and as is typical in such circumstances, it would be entirely inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further during the proceedings. It is vital that the judicial system is allowed to follow its course.

“I would like to remind the public that this matter is now the subject of active court proceedings and it is important to stress that there should be no commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”
