Advice issued to motorbike and moped owners following reports of theft in Portsmouth

Alert message sent 15/07/2021 16:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

We are urging motorbike and moped owners to review their security and take steps to protect their vehicles from theft.

Officers have seen an increase in reports of motorcycle and moped thefts over the past couple of days, with three reports coming from Southsea and two from the Fratton and Baffins area of the city.

We would like to take this opportunity to ask residents to please take a look at the following crime prevention tips and see if there is anything further you can do to protect your property:

• Always lock your bike

• Fit an alarm and immobiliser – it is almost certainly worth the investment

• When leaving your bike for some time, try to lock it to something secure. At home you can fit special attachments to lock your bike to

• Don’t leave items such as helmets or other possessions with your bike

• If possible park your bike in a locked garage out of site from passers-by

Anyone with information about those responsible for motorbike thefts in the area should contact 101.

Alternatively you can contact Crime stoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
