Gas mains replacement work in the St Andrews area

Alert message sent 31/03/2021 19:32:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

We know that during the coronavirus outbreak, our communities will rely on us now more than ever to keep them safe and warm. The safety of our communities and our employees will remain our number one priority in the weeks and months ahead.

Our safety-critical project to upgrade the gas network in St Andrews needs to go ahead now, rather than wait until the pandemic passes, to ensure your local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. We’re working closely with Scottish Government to make sure we carry out our project in line with all current coronavirus safety guidance.

We have agreed with Fife Council to carry out this necessary work during the national lockdown to minimise disruption to the local community.

Starting on 6 April 2021 until 19 June 2021 our engineers will be working on this £248,000 project to replace just over 1.3km of old metallic gas main with new PE pipe. During this time, we will be working in the following areas:
  • Albany Park
  • 2 – 40 St Mary Street – this section will need to operate under temporary two-way traffic lights for approximately eight weeks
  • 2 – 20 Woodburn Terrace
  • Rear of St Nicholas Street
  • Front of nos 66 – 86 St Nicholas Street
  • No 40 Langlands Road (this is a new connection to the network)
  • Kinnessburn Road to Pipeland Road
All work will be carried out under ‘give and take’ with the exception of St Mary Street.

Access will also be maintained for emergency vehicles.

We wish to assure you that our work will progress as quickly as possible and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit delays and disruption and to ensure the project remains on schedule. We will also ensure the temporary traffic lights will be manually controlled at peak periods.

We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities from the virus. Our colleagues will be keeping to social distancing guidelines on our sites and we’d ask communities to keep their distance too. There’s more information about our coronavirus response on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus

We’re writing to residents and other local stakeholders to make them aware of our project and explain the details of our work. Please feel free to also share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our project.

Thank you in advance for your support.
