Re: The smell of gas delivered through our pipes in Stornoway has changed.

We are writing to you, and all other Stornoway residents and gas consumers, as a reminder of our programme to change the smell of the gas delivered in Stornoway.

You may recall I initially informed you about these plans in October 2019.  At that stage we began a changeover programme to introduce a different additive to our gas. The additive has a distinctive smell which helps alert people to any possible gas leaks. The changeover has now been complete for some time, and the new additive, which has an organic smell likened to decaying vegetation, has fully integrated into our gas network.

We would like to remind you, if you smell gas or have any gas safety concerns, to call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.  We provide a free of charge gas emergency service. I’ve also attached and electronic version of our gas safety leaflet.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding the odorant changeover programme or other aspects of our service, then please get in touch (during office hours 08:30am - 04:15pm) with our local Stornoway office who can assist you at 08457 573 864 or contact me directly on the contact details below.
