Alert message sent 23/02/2021 09:54:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

We have had a recent spike in Catalytic Converter thefts across Handsworth.

Between 1/02/21 – 23/02/21 across Handsworth/Handsworth wood we have had 10 Catalytic Converters stolen. Converters are targeted by criminals for the precious metals.

There is no specific location this is throughout Handsworth/Handsworth wood.

- Try to keep in mind when you’re parking your vehicle – making it difficult for people to gain access to the back/underside of your vehicle – trying to park it as close as possible to a fence/wall/house – with the exhaust being closest to the fence/wall/house to make the theft more difficult.

 - Park your car in a locked garage if possible – if this isn’t an option then park in a well-lit area.

 - Avoid parking your vehicle half on the pavement and half on the road as this may make it easier for people to access the catalytic converter.

- If you operate a small fleet – consider obstructing access to vehicles with high ground clearance by parking lower vehicles close by.

- Install security cameras.
