28th Nov Anti-Burglary Operation - A thank you and success

Alert message sent 29/11/2020 19:51:00

Information sent on behalf of Surrey Police

Dear Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Watch members.

I just wanted to pass on a big thank you from Pc Paul Finnegan, who put together and ran yesterday’s proactive burglary operation in Bagshot and Lightwater, to the 22 people who turned out and gave their time to provide support to the officers by acting as extra sets of eyes and ears and also by delivering crime prevention advice letters to properties that looked as if they could be a target.

For those people who do not use Facebook, you may not have seen the local police team post about one of the successes of the evening, so I have reproduced the message posted on the Surrey Heath Beat (Surrey Police) Facebook Page for interest;

“Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Police Officers and PCSOs along with the probationer development unit and Special Constables were out on a proactive burglary operation last night around Bagshot, Lightwater and surrounding areas, with the purpose of targeting burglars.
A van was stopped by Officers after being seen driving through Lightwater and Bagshot.
The van was stolen from London and was on false plates. Inside the vehicle were further stolen number plates from different vehicles, a set of bolt croppers, a cricket bat and a large amount of cannabis plants. The male was also a disqualified driver, tested positive for Cannabis on a roadside drug test, had no insurance.
The male was subsequently arrested on suspicion of the following offences:
-Theft of a motor vehicle
-Handling stolen goods
-Going equipped to steal
-Possessing an offensive weapon
-Cultivation of cannabis
-Possession with intent to supply cannabis
-Drug driving
-Driving without insurance
-Driving whilst disqualified
-Breach of Criminal Behaviour order
-Breach of bail
He was also wanted by The Metropolitan Police for breach of his tag and so was also arrested for this on behalf of The Met Police.
This is a fantastic result for the team and for the Surrey Heath community to have this male off the streets and in custody!
Also a thanks to NHW who under the covid restrictions came out in their households to volunteer with delivering burglary prevention information as part of their daily exercise.”

Again thank you to all those who came out and supported the operation and if you are interested in supporting future events then please do register your interest with Mike Potter (Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Watch Six Villages Area Coordinator) at MPotter@SurreyHeathNW.co.uk

Kind Regards.
