Advice to Dog walkers in Dunstable

Alert message sent 18/11/2020 14:13:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

The Rural Crime team is asking all Dunstable residents, especially dog walkers and owners to remain vigilant when walking their dogs in the Green Lane area of DUNSTABLE.

This comes after we received information of an incident that occurred in this area this week whereby a dog had fallen ill after walking in this area.

During the summer months, in response to a couple of similar incidents, a trigger plan was put in place for our Force Contact Centre in the event of further dogs falling ill in and around the DUNSTABLE area especially when in woodland locations, to assist with further investigations. Posters were put up by the woodland trust and we had officers in the area to speak and reassure dog owners.

Whilst there was no confirmed link to poisoning at that time, we are asking Dunstable residents to contact us if you have any information due to this latest incident of a dog falling ill. Please remain vigilant especially if your dog starts to sniff or put anything in its mouth.

If your dog does eat something whilst you are out and begins to become ill very quickly, please seek veterinary assistance urgently and report to the police via 101 or the online reporting tool.

We do not wish to alarm anyone as we do not know the source of what is causing these animals to fall ill, but please ensure you have sight of your animals at all times on your walks and we would advise you to keep them on leads within this particular area for the moment.

If you have any information that may assist us or if you have any concerns around this message that you would like to discuss, please contact the RURAL CRIME TEAM - Team Email Address – opsentinel.rural@bedfordshire.pnn.police.uk

Many thanks,
