Alert message sent 12/11/2020 19:32:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you are aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to you to make you aware of our upcoming project to upgrade our gas network in the Oxgangs Road North & Colinton Road, area of Edinburgh. This project involves us replacing our existing gas mains with new plastic pipe.

Our essential work will ensure the local community receives a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. We’re working closely with Scottish Government to make sure we carry out our project in line with all current coronavirus safety guidance.

We’re looking to start the final phase of this work to replace the gas main within the Oxgangs Road North & Colinton Road area of Edinburgh on Monday the 16 November 2020 and will last approximately 6 weeks.

There will be a requirement to use temporary traffic signals, from 8:30am on Monday, 3 way signals will be set up at the Colinton roundabout. These will cause delays during peak periods and will be manually controlled to ease congestion during these times.

To ensure everyone’s safety, local diversion routes will be in operation and it will be necessary to close the following roads. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
  • Craiglockhart Road junction with Colinton Road
  • Craiglockhart Park junction with Colinton Road
During these works we will close the entrance of both Craiglockhart Road and Craiglockhart Park at the junction with Colinton Road. This will likely take place during the second or third week of the project.

Parking suspensions will be in operation on Colinton Road for the duration of our works although access to driveways will always be maintained where possible. This will be carried out on a phased basis as not all parking will be affected at once.

We wish to assure you that work will progress as quickly as possible and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit delays and disruption caused by our works.

We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities from the virus. Our colleagues will be keeping to social distancing guidelines on our sites and we’d ask communities to keep their distance too. There’s more information about our coronavirus response on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus

We’ve written to residents and other local stakeholders to make them aware of our project and explain the details of our work. Please feel free to also share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our project.

If you have any specific enquiries about this project, please call us on 0800 912 1700 and our customer service team will be happy to help.

Thank you for your support during these challenging times and if there’s anything else you need please let me know.
