Alert message sent 17/10/2020 19:32:00

Information sent on behalf of Humberside Police

Bonfire Night

Dear Residents

This year, bonfire night is officially on a Monday, 5th November however I am aware that there will be a number of bonfire night parties happening over the weekend prior to the Monday. We want everyone to have a great time but also be safe so please follow the below advice –

1. Never give sparklers to a child under five

2. When you are watching fireworks always stand well back

3. Fireworks will scare your pets, so keep them safely indoors

4. Only adults should light and hold fireworks

5. Never go near a firework when it has been lit. Even if it hasn’t gone off as it could still explode

6. If you are given a sparkler, always wear gloves and hold it at arm’s length

7. When a sparkler goes out DON’T TOUCH IT. It could still burn you, so put it in a bucket of water hot end down

8. You have to be 18 years old before you are allowed to buy fireworks in the shop

9. Never play with fireworks

Don’t make your home a target for a burglar. An opportunist thief will know that people will be out and leaving their homes empty. Leave a light on at home to make it look like someone’s in and NEVER leave valuables on display

Please be aware that during Bonfire Night and the nights running up to it, calls to police, especially in relation to ASB, can be significantly higher than normal. This may increase the call answering times so please be aware of this. THINK do you really need to call the police? Please consider if it is the police you really need and just how important is it?

To try and prevent any fires which may cause danger to the public or if you see any unofficial prepared bonfires/stacks of wood in areas where they shouldn’t be these can be reported to Hull City Council who will come and collect them.

Thank you, stay safe and don’t become a victim of crime

Regards

Humberside Police
