Respect the countryside

Alert message sent 04/10/2020 19:15:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

With more and more people wanting to get out and about in the countryside, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team is appealing for everyone to act responsibly and respect the environment and farmland.

When you are in the countryside, always respect farmers' property and their animals. Please don't treat farm property as an adventure playground, as it can be incredibly dangerous.

Officers have recently received reports of discourteous and impudent individuals acting in an irresponsible manner on local farms recently.

Officer Andrea Thompson says: "Never climb on bales of hay when on farmland. If disturbed or dislodged the bales could collapse on you, potentially causing significant harm or worse."

Andrea continues: "Please don't trespass on to farmland and always keep your dogs under control and on a lead. Remember to leave gates and property as you find them - and always leave farm machinery and animals alone."

If you're worried about something, try and alert the farmer first and if they're not available call 101.

For more information about this please read the Countryside Code, which can be found via www.gov.uk/government/organisations/natural-England
