Alert message sent 26/09/2020 10:33:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following safety message is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you are aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.
I’m writing to you to make you aware of our upcoming project to upgrade our gas network in the A7 Newtongrange, area of Midlothian. This project involves us replacing our existing gas mains with new plastic pipe.
Our essential work will ensure the local community receives a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. We’re working closely with Scottish Government to make sure we carry out our project in line with all current coronavirus safety guidance.
We’re looking to start work to replace the gas main within the Main Street area of Newtongrange on Saturday the 17 October 2020. Our project will be carried out by our contractor George Ritchie, Utilities on our behalf and will last approximately 5 weeks.
To ensure everyone’s safety, local diversion routes will be in operation during this time. Parking suspensions will be in place for the duration of our works although access to driveways will always be maintained where possible. There will also be a requirement to use temporary signals from time to time. These may cause delays during peak periods.
From the 17 October we need to close Main Street junction with Murderdean Road, Newtongrange to through vehicular traffic for approximately nine days. This phase of the project has been planned during the local school holidays.
The local bus service will also be diverted during this time, please check with your service provider for exact routes. Information will be placed on bus stops in advance of works starting and bus operators will also have information on their websites and social media channels.
One entrance to the Saughs will also be closed however access to this street will be available at all times. This will commence after completion of the above.
We wish to assure you that work will progress as quickly as possible and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit delays and disruption caused by our works.
We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities from the virus. Our colleagues will be keeping to social distancing guidelines on our sites and we’d ask communities to keep their distance too. There’s more information about our coronavirus response on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus
We’re writing to residents and other local stakeholders to make them aware of our project and explain the details of our work. Please feel free to also share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our project.
If you have any specific enquiries about this project, please call us on 0800 912 1700 and our customer service team will be happy to help.
See attachments for more details.
