South Leicester Police - Rogue Traders and Scams

Alert message sent 06/09/2020 10:02:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Neighbourhood Link Member,

We have seen a small increase in victims of door-to-door rogue traders in the last few days around your area or near by.

One of the victims has described the two males involved as being Irish, with approximate ages of 60 and 40 years old. The 60 year old was described as having blonde hair, being of a large build and approximately 6ft tall. The 40 year old was described as having brown hair, being of medium build and again approximately 6ft tall. They had a white van with them, displaying a non UK registration number.

It is best practice to NEVER agree to work being completed when someone turns up on your doorstep. Any reputable company will be more than happy to leave you with a flyer/business card, which you can then use to research the company online or seek further independent evidence of a company's legitimacy.

You can find further advice around scams at our website: https://www.leics.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/fa/fraud/personal-fraud/

If you spot a scam or have been scammed, report it and get help. Contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/. Call us on 101 if you know the suspect or they’re still in the area. If you're deaf or hard of hearing, use our textphone service on 18001 101.

Don’t be embarrassed about reporting a scam. By reporting it, you could make it more difficult for scammers to deceive others.

Kind regards
