Notification of major gas replacement works in the Redford Road area of Edinburgh

Alert message sent 31/07/2020 11:20:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

I’m writing to you with another update on our project to upgrade our gas network in Redford Road, area Edinburgh.

Following government advice back in March, we needed to make changes to our ways of working to protect our colleagues and communities from the spread of coronavirus. As a result, we temporarily paused our network upgrade project in your community.

As lockdown restrictions now begin to ease in Scotland, we’re looking to resume our work in Redford Road, Edinburgh shortly. We shouldn’t need to interrupt gas supplies to homes or businesses, and our engineers won’t be calling at residents’ home.

We will restart work in Redford Road/Colinton Road on Monday the 10 August and will last approximately six weeks. This work will be carried out by our contractor George Ritchie, Utilities on our behalf

During this project we are required to commission the gas mains previously laid and decommission the existing metallic apparatus. This will involve:
  • Redford Road closure to through vehicular traffic between Redford Drive and Colinton Road. Local access will still be maintained.
  • Closure of Thorburn Road junction with Colinton Road. Both these roads will not be closed at the same time.
  • Temporary signals will be in place on Colinton Road which will likely cause delays during peak periods. These will be manually controlled throughout.
To help carryout these essential works parking suspensions will also be in place throughout.

We wish to assure you that work will progress as quickly as possible and we will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience caused by our works.

We’re working closely with Scottish Government to make sure we carry out our project in line with all expert coronavirus guidance. We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities while we work. There’s more information about our coronavirus response on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus

We’re writing to residents and other local stakeholders to make them aware of our project and explain the details of our work. Please feel free to also share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our project.

If you have any specific enquiries about this project, please call us on 0800 912 1700 and our customer service team will be happy to help.

Thank you for your support during these challenging times.
