Message from Dr McNally from public health Sandwell

Alert message sent 30/07/2020 07:50:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear all,

Just to confirm, the rates of coronavirus have risen rapidly in Sandwell in the last week.

While I realise how important Eid celebrations are to the Muslim members of our community, it’s unfortunately the case that any gathering of people in our area right now is putting lives at risk.  This particularly applies to people who are older (over 60 years) or have long term health conditions – as they are far more likely to become severely ill and die if infected.

We must advise all of our Muslim faith community leaders to cancel any large celebrations or gatherings that they were planning for Eid.  If any gatherings or celebrations do go ahead they must be kept very small, well socially distanced and if possible exclude any older adults or those with long terms health conditions.  Faith leaders and managers of venues must ensure that they are not responsible for an outbreak.

Director of Publish Health for Sandwell, Dr Lisa McNally.
