Lower Valley Priority Update

In Calderdale local partnership priorities are set at the six weekly Safer, Cleaner, Greener meeting. This meeting brings partners from Police, Fire, Health, Calderdale Council and local councillors, together to tackle local issues.

Each Safer Cleaner Greener area has a lead Police Sergeant and Police Officer who leads on problem solving. They are supported by other officers, PCSO's Police Staff and partnership resources.

The latest meeting was held on Tuesday 14th July and after discussions the decision was made that the area priorities would remain the same.  (please see update sheet below)

Below is the update of the work undertake to address the priorities that were in place up to 14th July

LOWER VALLEY PRIORITIES
Date set – 2 June 2020


Work in partnership to keep people safe - engage, explain, encourage and enforce the current COVID 19 legislation
 
We will work in conjunction with other partners in a joint approach to the deployment of resources across the Lower Valley. We will aim to provide clear promotion of the Government guidelines of which you can find out more information on www.gov.uk. We will be focusing on high footfall areas and dispersing inappropriate numbers of gathering people.

 UPDATE - 1 to 14 July - Across Calderdale we have continued to work with the community explaining the Government legislation and guidance as the situation has progressed.  

Road Safety throughout the Lower Valley

We will work in conjunction with others partners in a joint approach to the deployment of resources throughout the Lower Valley. Undertake proactive patrols of the area, partnership deployment of Speed Indication Devices (SID) and work with the road safety delivery group to deploy enforcement resources. We will be focusing on speeding in the Rastrick area.


UPDATE – 1 to 14 July - Calderdale NPT Officers have been carrying out speed checks throughout Lower Valley. Roads visited, New Hey Road, Shibden Hall Road, Woodhouse Lane, Dewsbury road, Saddleworth Road, Stainland Road, Park Lane, Claremount Road, Deep Lane, Huddersfield Road, Smith House Lane and Lightcliffe Road.

A large number of the checks were carried out by Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) as monitoring exercises and they do not have the power to issue tickets for speeding. However some were carried out by the PCSO’s in company with their Police Constable (PC) and Special Constable (SC) colleagues and tickets were issued for speeding offences, not wearing seat belts, parking against a solid white line and causing an obstruction.  Words of advice were given to a number of motorists relating to their manor of driving.

6 people have been arrested for driving whilst over the prescribed limit,  1 x van seized for no insurance, 1 x scooter recovered on cloned plates, 1 x quad bike seized, 1 x stolen motorbike seized

Further enforcement days of action will be undertaken and if necessary tickets will be issued / vehicles seized.

Drug misuse throughout the Lower Valley

We will work in conjunction with others partners in a joint approach to proactively gather intelligence and take action on reports and intelligence received. 


UPDATE –1 to 14 July – PC’s and PCSO’s have been out in the area delivering leaflets relating to Dob In a Dealer. Leaflets have been delivered in Bailiff Bridge, Northowram and Shelf,

Officers acted on intelligence received relating to drug dealing and a male was arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation in Shelf- enquiries are ongoing.
Intelligence led to 2 vehicles being seized relating to drugs possession in Southowram. Ongoing investigation.
Vehicle check resulted in passenger being searched under Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act. Subsequently arrested for possession of Cannabis. Ongoing investigation
