Re-appeal: Officers keen to speak to scooter man following Bulwell attack

Officers are re-appealing for information and are keen to speak to a man on a scooter who owns a dog called 'Chocolate', after an elderly man was attacked and left him frightened to leave the house.

Seventy-five-year-old Derek Brailsford was punched and kicked in the head in an unprovoked attack that left him needing hospital treatment.

Officers have had a number of calls of potential sightings of the offender in Basford, but still need help to track him down in connection with the incident.

Officers are now re-appealing for witnesses and information following the incident along the River Leen towpath in Bulwell at around 11.50am on Saturday 13 June 2020.

Police Constable Adam Scotney is leading the investigation. He said: "Since Derek spoke to the media in June, we've had plenty of responses and information, which is great, however, we still haven't managed to speak to the offender.

"We now believe a man in connection with the incident has been spotted on an electric scooter in the Bagnall Road area and around Skylark Way in Bulwell.

"A man matching a description has been seen by multiple people on the street and the park surrounding Basford United Football Club. Witnesses have also said that he has been see with a small brown dog which we believe is called 'Chocolate'.

"We would like to be able to speak to this man in connection with the incident.

"We are hoping that between the better location and now knowing the name of the dog this is going to help with someone being able to identify him.

"Thankfully Derek is healing well, but he is still struggling to go out and leave his house and doesn't like to walk down the river anymore, so we are keen to find the culprit as soon as possible.

"This was a horrible incident in broad daylight and we hope to track down the offender by releasing these details.

"The description given to us is a black or mixed race man, believed to be in his late teens early 20s, with a gold tooth and star tattoo down the side of his neck.

"At the time, he was wearing a black cap, black jacket and black trousers and was riding a black electric scooter. He was followed by a small brown dog.

"If you know this man or have any information please do call 101, quoting incident number 284 of 13 June 2020."
