Vehicle theft safety

Alert message sent 24/06/2020 20:51:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear Citizen

Over the past month we have had 4 vehicles stolen and 1 attempt theft of a vehicle from the forecourt at Sainsbury's petrol station, Castle Vale.  On all occasions, the keys have been left in the vehicle or ignition when using the pump.  The offender is clearly an opportunist who waits for vehicles to be left hidling before taking his chance.

We are reminding vehicle owners to please take their keys out of the ignition and out of your vehicles when using any equipment on petrol forecourts and also whenever you leave your vehicle at any time.

We would also like to say thank you to an unknown 'local hero' who physically challenged the offender today (24/06/20) and stopped another car being stolen.  From watching the CCTV, this male acted without thinking, to protect a total strangers property.  Fantastic community spirit and we would love to know who you are!!!!!

If you see anyone acting suspiciously or a crime taking place, please call 101 or 999.
