Weekly Policing Update - Somersham District

Good Morning, Somersham District Members –

 
Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, covering the period 2nd to 8th June:

 
Covid-19 – From Monday 1st June the Covid-19 rules have been slightly relaxed, and we are now able to have slightly more interaction with family and friends whilst outdoors – but it will still be vitally important to follow the social distancing rules and stay 2 metres away from people from other households.

The Lane, Old Hurst – Police and an ambulance were called to an incident at The Lane, Old Hurst, on Thursday evening, 4th June, where a car had crashed into a ditch on a corner. Recovery services arranged to tow the car away, and unfortunately one person was reported to have been slightly injured. (Ref CC-04062020-0311)
 
 
And Finally – Do You Know Your Emergency Numbers?
 
It used to be just ‘999’ for the emergency services, but now there is a whole range of numbers we can use to summon help. Do you know which is which and when to use them?
 
999 – This is the emergency number for Police, Fire, Ambulance, Coastguard and other similar organisations such as Cave Rescue and Mountain Rescue.
999 should only be used when urgent attendance by the emergency services is required, for example, when someone is seriously ill or a crime is in progress.
999 calls are free and can be dialled from a locked mobile phone.


55 – The Silent Solution Protocol – If you have dialled ‘999’ but it is too dangerous for you to speak, the Emergency Operator will ask you to cough, tap the phone, or make some other noise to let them know that this is not just an accidental call. If you cannot do any of these things, you can dial ‘55’ and your call will be responded to as an emergency.


112 – This operates exactly the same as ‘999’, but will also work on a mobile phone anywhere in the EU – useful to know when travelling abroad.
112 calls are free and can also be dialled from a locked mobile phone.


101 – This is the non-emergency number for contacting the Police. The general rule is – if a crime is not currently in progress, use 101.
101 can also be used to give information about a crime, or to contact the police with a general enquiry – but the Police web-site can also be used for these purposes as well.
101 calls are charged at a flat rate of 15 pence per call.


111 – This is the non-emergency medical number. Use this for illnesses and minor injuries, where life is not threatened but you would like some advice on what to do next.
111 calls are free.
