Crime Series Update Brigg and Wolds

Alert message sent 30/04/2020 12:33:00

Information sent on behalf of Humberside Police

Crime Update

This will be my final message regarding the Crime Series that started in the Brigg and Wolds ward during the first week of March 2020.

As you will be aware from my previous messages regarding the matter the type off offences mainly related to vehicle crime. The Neighbourhood Team and Intelligence Teams have been monitoring the situation and are please to report that the series appears to have come to an end.

In previous messages I stated we had information which suggested certain individuals were responsible but did not have enough evidence to take action against them. We had some success with the thefts from Brigg Primary School and the burglaries at Scalinis and Brigg Working Mens club. The majority of incidents went undetected as we could not identify the suspects from the numerous clips of CCTV footage we recovered.

I am pleased to report those that we suspected to be responsible for the majority of the incidents have now been moved out of the Brigg and Wolds area so should not cause any further large scale issues such as this.

I have attached two graphs showing the offences linked to this series in March compared with April. No crime should be made little of as there is always someone who is adversely effected. I am sure you will agree that the number of offences has drastically reduced to a level having less of an impact on the ward as a whole.

We will continue to monitor all crime in Brigg and Wolds to identify if there is a resurgence and rest assured we are not winding down our efforts to prevent an detect crime in Brigg and Wolds. The extra support that was provided by other departments will now be coming to a close and patrols will be conducted as part of normal Policing Business for the area rather than a targetted approach to this issue.

I have included two bar graphs to better illustrate the drop in crime in April compared to March I would like to say thank you to the community for the support and patience whilst this series has been ongoing. Please continue to report any and all suspicious circumstances and any crime no matter how small.

You can report using 101 for any ongoing non-emergency incidents or not ongoing incident. Any non ongoing incident can be reported at: https://www.humberside.police.uk/non-emergency-crime

If there is an ongoing Crime or other emergency please use 999.

On another note we are continuing to respond to reports of people breaching the new Coronavirus related legislation. I am sure you can understand that general Policing has not stopped and we still have to decide which reports get an immediate response and which ones have to be delayed dependant on the current demand on our service.

The problem is our demand is in a constant state of change so I cannot guarantee that each report you make regarding the Corona Virus legislation will be the same. We WILL respond I just cannot say exactly how or when.

Humberside Police is also following the national regulations for Policing the Corona Virus legislation which is to Engage, Explain, Encourage, and then Enforce.

The main repeated place we are getting reports about is Arties Mill. I have personally engaged with the manager to discuss the situation. You may or may not know that Arties Lodge is being used by the local authority to house the homeless and vulnerable during the pandemic. The location is by no means large enough inside for people to isolate themselves in the rooms and the corridors are very narrow so people living there will be unable to properly distance themselves from each other. The residents were spoken to by myself and have had the legislation explained to them. They have all been told that when leaving the site they must follow the Social Distancing rules.

Arties Mill is included on a list of daly patrols by a dedicated Corona Virus Legislation Patrol resource but it is impractical to have a Policing resource monitor the location at all times.

Please report all beaches of the Corona Virus legislation at: https://www.reportingcrime.uk/HPBreachOfCovid19Guidance/index.html

Above all please STAY SAFE and do what you can for each other.

STAY AT HOME > PROTECT THE NHS > SAVE LIVES

Kindest regards,

Lawrence GRANT
