National stalking awareness week 20th April - 24th April 2020

Alert message sent 20/04/2020 13:31:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear residents,

If you're a victim of stalking, we understand that the lockdown may have left you feeling isolated, vulnerable and exposed.
If you need our help, we are still here to support you.
Technology and social networking sites can enable stalkers to impersonate others online or to send or post hostile messages to their victim. Here is some advice to make you more secure digitally.

Changing user names and passwords regularly on online account

Never accept a friend request from someone you don’t know

Block the person who is harassing you

Change your account privacy settings to 'friends only' or 'only me'

Facebook also allows you to remove yourself from public searches

Many people frequently access social networks and email via a mobile. Activate a PIN or password on your phone to prevent other people from using it

If you have Snapchat check the settings on the location sharing feature

Turn off GPS/geo location settings on your mobile and don’t use applications to 'check in' to places

You can contact the National Stalking Helpline on 0808 802 0300 or online for support -
Also you can live chat us at West-Midlands.police.uk or call 999 in an emergency.
Stay home stay safe
