Alert message sent 19/04/2020 22:37:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Dear Members

Hope you all are staying well. We have received reports in the Wigston area where opportunist are looking for insecure premises. Residents are still leaving their premises insecure especially in rooms that they are not staying in. There has also been car key burglaries where criminals have managed to gain access to a ground floor insecure window and stole the vehicle keys and obviously the vehicle without occupants knowing till the next morning.

Please ensure that before you do go to bed is to check all ground floor windows and doors to your premises are locked. I know leaving keys near the main door is very convenient especially for burglars who are looking for the keys whilst you are either in another room or upstairs sleeping. to make it harder for criminals, consider purchasing a metal Key cabinet that has either a combination lock or one that can be open via finger print recognition. Ensure that the cabinet is bolted on to the wall. The nature of these burglaries is to take the car keys discreetly which having a key cabinet may prevent your cars being stolen as they wont be able to take the keys so easily.

Finally so many of you are adhering to the Covid-19 regulations and I would like to thank everyone for their support by Staying at Home, Protecting the NHS and Saving Lives. However we have seen many who are gathering in certain places. Please ensure that your households are all aware about the importance not to meet others, even friends or family that are not in your house hold. You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms. For more information and updates visit the below link.
