COVID-19 Burbage Police update

Dogs in parks

We have received reports that some dog walkers are putting their dogs in children’s play areas to “do its business” and on Hinckley road park and Rugby road park. This is not allowed and please remember that young children will hopefully soon be back in those areas crawling around and playing with the play equipment. We are patrolling these areas and extra signage is being put up to make it clear this is not acceptable.

Parking pavement

This week we have challenged several people in relation to pavement parking where the vehicle is blocking public access. Please remember that blocking public access is not fair on residents who have to walk in the road to get around a vehicle. Please also be mindful if you are having any work done on your property, ask the worker to park appropriately. Most of the time people are happy to move their vehicle and are apologetic, I am just asking people to take a few seconds to consider the impact on others of bad parking.

I have spoken to a resident who received an Email regarding payment for her TV licence. This is an old scam and the resident knew it but please continue to be mindful. See https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ for more information on scams.

Driving to locations for exercise dog walking

We are continuing to ask people not to drive to locations to exercise or walk the dog. Please see https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus for all of the latest guideline on what you should or should not be doing.

Fire/log Burners

Advice is being given not to have bonfires etc due to the breathing difficulties it can cause. Please also consider things like wood burners and whether you need to be using them in this weather. Lots of people suffer with Asthma or other breathing difficulties so please bear in mind the impact the smoke could be having on your neighbours.

Volunteer Update, a fantastic message passed on from our local volunteer group

A few weeks ago to try and help out those in need in our community, a small group of Burbage residents set up the Burbage Covid 19 Support Group to offer 3 services to residents - a shopping service, a prescription collection/delivery and Hello Neighbour phone call for anyone isolated and in need of a chat.
We aim to support 3 groups: the elderly, those in high risk groups and residents who are self isolating due to Covid 19 symptoms.

Burbage Covid 19 Support has now completed over 40 errands for 30 different residents! Thankfully, we have had a lot of support from the community and now have 36 volunteers, including 5 of us who are trying to coordinate the whole thing!

We have been busy trying to put procedures and a rota in place to hopefully keep things running smoothly over the coming weeks. We are communicating with the council and local churches. We are also being supported by Hinckley and Burbage Lions who have made a large donation to enable us to keep running. Some of the funds have been used to buy gloves for volunteers and cover costs such as phone calls.

Anyone who needs support or knows of a neighbour who may be in need of support, please contact us:

Stay safe,

Lucy, Becky, Ellie, Ruth and Sweta
