Gedling Borough to cease bulky waste and glass recycling collections immediately

Alert message sent 30/03/2020 17:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch in Nottinghamshire

Gedling Borough Council has made the decision to stop all bulky waste and glass collections from Tuesday 31 March to ensure its critical waste collection services can continue to be prioritised.

Reductions in staffing levels and an increase in the amount of waste being created due to people staying at home in response to the Coronavirus outbreak, has meant that the council has decided to suspend collection of bulky waste and glass collections in order to prioritise more critical waste services until further notice. Staff from other areas of the Council have been redeployed and trained up to assist waste collection but the pressure on COVID-19 is placing on the council’s frontline workers means there are currently insufficient crews to maintain all waste services at this time. The decision to suspend bulky waste and glass collections will be kept under constant review by the Council.

Any residents who have bulky waste collections already booked will be contacted and given the option to have a refund or to rearrange the collection at a later date.

I understand that there are bottle banks at some local supermarkets but they may fill up quickly as people are emptying more bottles at home and the household waste recycling centre at Calverton is closed for the duration.
