Covid-19 and recent arrest

Alert message sent 22/03/2020 12:17:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Good Afternoon Citizen

I hope that you are keeping yourself and your family and friends safe and well at this challenging time.

I strongly advise you to follow the government issued advice re self isolation and social distancing when you do need to go out for essential supplies. This is a challenging time for us all and the guidelines and advice are there for a reason.

There will be a lot of school children at home with the closure of schools to help prevent the spread of the virus and there will be a lot of people at home self-isolating, not working or looking after others. It is important to try and stay inside as much as possible.

From our side of things, we are still here working our normal shift pattern and going about our daily work. We have been paying attention to the supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Lidl as well as the smaller general stores as it is important to ensure people are able to buy essential groceries safely. Please think of those more vulnerable than you including the elderly and those with disabilities when it comes to buying essential items.

We have today been and arrested a young man who was identified as being involved in an attempted robbery yesterday that took place in Castle Vale where the youth and others tried to steal a pizza delivery driver's motorbike. This type of behaviour is not acceptable at any time let alone at the moment and we will be working with colleagues in CID to try and ensure we get a positive outcome.

In this rapidly changing situation, the need may arise for us to work further afield in the Erdington and Sutton areas but rest assured there will still be officers on patrol in the Tyburn area throughout this time.

Thank you for your understanding

Regards

Sgt Edkins
