Alert message sent 12/03/2020 15:10:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Two teenagers have pleaded guilty to causing extensive damage to a former school in Sandy.

The offenders, aged 15 and 16, both from Sandy, admitted to entering a closed premises in Park Road on numerous occasions between 8 and 18 September 2019.

When inside, the offenders smashed internal doors and windows, including fire doors, ripped sinks from the wall, smashed mirrors, damaged walls and tore fire alarms from the ceilings. The only room that was not damaged was a maths classroom.

The offenders admitted breaking into the property and causing damage.

Both boys were referred to undertake a four month referral rehabilitation order, and pay £250 victim compensation.

Sergeant Ted Rowland, who investigated, said: “Both boys admitted to causing a large amount of damage to the property. Although it was out of use at the time, this doesn’t mean it can be vandalised in this way.

“Both boys accepted the responsibility for their actions and hopefully it will be a harsh lesson for the future.

“We would like to reassure our local communities that we treat all reports of crime seriously and investigate accordingly.”
