Alert message sent 04/03/2020 17:26:00

Information sent on behalf of Durham Constabulary

Following community concerns regarding speeding vehicles around the Avenues area of Chester le Street, our speed watch volunteers have completed speed-watch surveys  at The Avenue and Whitehill Way on Monday 2nd March 2020.

On The Avenue a survey of 50 vehicles travelling South 40 of which were travelling below 30 mph, 7 between 31 and 34 mph and 3 of which were over 35 mph.

At Whitehill Way from the top travelling South 50 vehicles were surveyed: - 34 vehicles were 30 mph or less, 7 were between 31 and 34 mph and 9 were over 35 mph. In the opposite direction 33 vehicles were surveyed: - 29 were 30 mph or less, 3 were between 31 and 34 mph and 1 was over 35 mph

The combined results do not show a significant speeding problem, however these roads will still be monitored on a regular basis.

Please remember that it is 30 for a reason.
