Alert message sent 26/02/2020 12:52:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Do you want to help make a difference in your community, and help steer young people away from violence and criminality?

Then why not come along to our World Café event in Ryde on Thursday 12 March, where you can have your say on what positive steps we can take to help tackle serious violence.

Our officers, in partnership with Mutual Gain, are working with businesses, schools and other agencies in Ryde to bring communities together and build a positive future for young people.

Hampshire Constabulary secured funding from the Home Office Serious Violence Fund. The aims for this funding are to reduce serious violence in public spaces and to reduce the fear of crime - with a specific focus upon reducing violent crimes committed against young people. The expectation is to reduce crime and the fear of crime by adopting more of a community led and problem-solving approach.

We are looking for residents and young people to join us in a community conversation to discuss building young people’s resilience, steering them away from crime and violence, and what you think would make you feel safer living and working in Ryde.

Communities in Hampshire have knowledge, insight, expertise and ideas about crime that we want to hear. The aim of this World Cafe is to listen to residents and then work together to build the resilience and social capital needed in this community to help reduce crime.

World Cafés are a great way to start a conversation with the public. Think of the last time that you sat in a café chatting to one or more people at your table. If you are like us you were probably being nosey, listening to their conversations and you may even have wanted to join in their conversation. Maybe you had a solution to a problem that they were discussing or shared their experience. We are giving you the chance to be part of a wide community conversation in which your views will count!

World Cafes believe that conversations matter and talking together and acting as a community is what will create the difference to reduce crime. Come and join in a conversation with your neighbours, enjoy the refreshments and make a difference for your community. After the World Café the police and other agencies will be looking to support the building of new community schemes based upon what has been said.

The event will be held between 6pm and 8pm at The Ryde Castle, Esplanade, Ryde, PO33 1JA, and refreshments will be provided.

The first 100 people who sign up and attend will receive £10 cash for their participation as well as entry into a raffle.

If you are interested in coming along to the event, please email your name and postcode to letstalkryde@mail.com
