Catalytic Converter theft

Alert message sent 17/01/2020 14:52:00

Information sent on behalf of Surrey Police

Criminals are targeting Catalytic Converters in and around the Runnymede and Spelthorne areas, particularly Honda and Toyota vehicles.

Offenders often use a trolley jack to lift vehicles and then cut away the converters from beneath the vehicle which takes minutes..If you see a crime in action relating to this activity please dial 999 immediately.

To avoid your car being a target please consider the following crime prevention advice:
  • Park close to fences, walls or kerbs with the exhaust being closest to the fence, wall or kerb to make the theft more difficult
  • Avoid parking your vehicle half on the pavement and half on the road, as this may make it easier for thieves to access the catalytic converter
