Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

There have been  burglary recently on Yardley Green  Road where a bedroom window had been forced open and a number of items have been taken form the property. Again on Upton Road the front door was forced open to gain entry and on Stoney Lane where the lock on the rear door was snapped to gain entry. This time of year we see an increase of burglaries and sheds being broken into; there are few simple things that you can do to help to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of burglary.

Make sure you have a light on if going out of an evening.
Don’t advertise that you are out on social media.
Ensure that all windows and doors are secure.
Close you curtains or blinds of an evening don’t advertise what you have.
Don’t leave empty boxes out for collection if you have had new electrical goods i.e. new TV all you are doing is advertising something to steal to the burglar.
If possible add external lighting to your property and CCTV.
If your car has a remote start invests in a faraday bag to place your car keys in to stop the car thief from scanning you house for your car key.
Make sure you ask for ID if someone is at your door claiming to be from a company or bank or even a police Officer.
If you have a chain on you door please use it.
Check who’s at your door before opening it.

If you see someone acting suspicious or they seem out of place on your road then please report it to the Police either by 101 or using the online service.

You may want to check that your doors and windows are up to standard and you may also consider having anti snap locks fitted to your doors, as there has been an increase in lock being snapped to gain entry.

Help us to reduce crime in your area together we can make a difference, for more information you can go to the West Midlands Police web site.

If you have any information please contact us by using 101, crime stoppers or you can web chat on the West Midlands Police website.
