Courier Fraud in Oxford

Alert message sent 19/12/2019 13:44:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Courier Fraud is becoming more sophisticated and we have recently received multiple reports of calls to residents in Oxford where the scammer claims to be a Police Officer calling from Hammersmith Fraud Squad. The fraudster then says a card has been cloned from within the bank.

The fraudster asks the victim to ring 999 to confirm his/her validity, the fraudster does not hang up the phone so when the victim dials 999 you will end up speaking to the same person or another fraudster on the same phone line.

They then as you to visit your bank and withdraw an amount of cash and return home placing the money in envelope. Shortly after you have returned home a courier will arrive to collect the envelope containing the cash.

The fraudster then says they will call back later to take a statement, by the time you become suspicious the fraudster is long gone.
Please remember the following:

The Police or the Bank will NEVER ask for bank details, your PIN or ask you to visit the bank to withdraw cash over the phone.
NEVER give your bank cards or your PIN to anyone.
If you receive one of these calls HANG UP immediately.

Always call 999 if the crime is in action or report any other incidents to Action Fraud Email: www.actionfraud.police.uk Tel: 03001232040
