Wilmslow West and Chorley police newsletter
November to December 2019

James Morris
Police Community Support Officer
Wilmslow West and Chorley ward

Policing is not immune from the festivities of Christmas – indeed, work in December is not difficult to find with a number of seasonal duties and operations taking place.

I was pleased to attend this year’s Christmas lights switch-on in Wilmslow town centre along with other neighbourhood officers – even though none of us got a ride on the reindeers. Elsewhere, the usual Christmas campaigns around not over-indulging in alcohol will become present over the coming weeks. I’ve also been visiting garden nurseries in the ward to conduct security reviews in relation to potential Christmas tree thefts.

During the past week there have been three actual or attempted thefts of York Stone paving slabs from addresses on Upcast Lane in Chorley. It is advisable to make sure that stones are either securely placed into the ground or – if they have not yet been laid – locked up in a secure location. The usual crime prevention advice also applies, such as using good external lighting, locking gates and reporting suspicious activity. Further crime prevention methods can be found here: https://www.cheshire.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/residential-burglary/

As I am sure you will be very much aware, the UK goes to the polls on 12th December as voters cast their votes in a general election. Polling stations open from 7am to 10pm and all in the ward area will be visited by officers during the day. This is a regular occurrence for election days and ensures that the safety and security of polling station staff and visitors is prioritised.

Although I’m sure that everyone completed their Christmas shopping many weeks ago, if you’re still after one or two special treats make sure that you are not caught out by online scams. There is a plethora of simple safety advice available on our website: https://www.cheshire.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/fa/fraud/personal-fraud/online-shopping/
