Beware of scammers offering fake deals on flights

Alert message sent 06/11/2019 11:42:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

Scammers cold call people in their homes after they have unwittingly entered their details in to a scam site while searching for flights. The scammer then offers a really cheap deal on flights to your chosen destination.
They usually ask to be paid by bank transfer and you receive a confirmation email. When the victim contacts the airline, they discover their flight is not booked.
Only use trusted sites and make sure you do your research.
If a payment is requested by bank transfer, you should treat this as a red flag. It is harder to trace a payment made by bank transfer. It’s also harder to recover your funds from your bank.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
If you’ve been the victim of a scam, get in touch with us at consumer.enquiries@southlanarkshire.gov.uk or call us on 0303 123 1015.
