Baildon burglaries

Alert message sent 04/11/2019 10:28:00

Information sent on behalf of West Yorkshire Police

Dear Citizen

Since the 1st October, we have seen 16 burglaries recorded in Baildon.
I write not to scare you, but to explain how this has happened. It will highlight how you can support me in tackling this issue. Crime is still down, and I want to keep it that way.
We have had 2 through an insecure window, 4 through an insecure door, 1 whereby the vehicles on the driveway were unlocked and contained the house keys which were then used to gain access to the house.
We’ve had 2 where they’ve snapped the lock.
We’ve had 2 garages burgled and mountain bikes / tools stolen.
We have had some good results whereby one has entered via the insecure porch way, but as the main door was locked, they’ve not got in. This has still been classed as a burglary.
Another where the neighbour has disturbed them before they’ve got in, attempting to snap the lock.
We’ve had one where both cars were on the driveway unlocked, searched but the main house door was secure so they’ve not got in.
We’ve had burglaries recorded where they’ve tried the doors but they’ve been locked. Cried so feature on the statistics, but for me a positive.

How you can support me
• Lock your doors and windows
• Check your locks are snap safe
• Continue to ring in any suspicious behaviour
• Become a Neighbourhood Watch coordinator if you are not already

What my team are doing to support you
A 15 year old has been arrested for 2 offences. These were via insecure windows. He lives elsewhere. Of note he is now wanted for burglaries in Shipley and Bradford East areas.
3 were arrested for a burglary where a Ford C max was stolen. Again, all 3 live elsewhere and were 20, 20 and 19 years old. This was an insecure door.
A 21 year old local Baildon male is wanted for a snapped lock burglary and my team are hunting for him as I type. This male is also wanted for Bingley burglaries.
Overnight, there are response officers, traffic officers ( SRANS ) , pro-active intercept team ( PIT ) and Firearms Support unit (FSU) who proactively patrol.

Also, there is a local team to Shipley Ward, not to Baildon, that are committing force wide burglaries. This is being looked at by the force and a plan is being put in place to tackle this. I am not in a position to release to you the details of this plan, for obvious reasons.

Please continue to build on what we’ve got in Baildon as the community spirit and communication with us, the Police and each other is second to none.

Kind regards
Sgt Terri Green
