Coordinators and Membership

Alert message sent 01/11/2019 15:58:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

Dear Coordinator,
Further to recent local surveys, we write to you regarding the apparent lack of clarity over the role of Coordinators.    It is particularly disturbing to learn that some Coordinators do not even have a current list of Members. After all a basic “list of members” is a fundamental requirement of any organisation of our kind.

However, by now ALL Coordinators should already be regularly encouraging ALL their members to register online, thereby reducing the need to keep physical records, except for their non-internet members.

Online Registration has the added benefit to the Member that they can select who they receive information from, thus removing interaction with agencies they would rather not hear from.
It has a benefit for you, the Coordinator too, since there is much less need to print and deliver information, leaving more time to connect with those most needing your support.

With the vast majority of residents now having internet access (even if they're not always forthcoming with an email address) looking after a scheme should already have become a much easier task. Especially if like us, you are becoming a little older and perhaps a tad less mobile, since you no longer need to traipse the streets.

Maintaining a list of 'non-internet' members should not be an onerous task either and needs only to contain the most basic information, Name, Address, Phone Number.
Importantly this also secures the future of the scheme, since it can be transferred to a successor in the event you retire or move away.
Please have this information available, since in the event of a serious incident or emergency, this information may be needed by the Police and/or other emergency services.

As a Coordinator, you already have an 'online' administration account and any registered online member in your area may apply to join your scheme directly through that account.
It would seem that many have 'never' logged into their account, so if you are amongst them, please do log in to see if you have any potential members waiting to be approved?

When did you last call on neighbours, who are not currently in your scheme, asking if they wish to join? Many more may be inclined to join now, in light of current policing concerns and that they can now do so online, automatically receiving the weekly Police report and other selected information,

It's time to “revitalise” your Scheme, importantly inviting even your existing members to register online at: http://worthingnhw.ourwatch.org.uk/ simply “click” on the JOIN button.
