Shining a Light on the Dark Nights

Alert message sent 26/10/2019 16:07:00

Information sent on behalf of South Yorkshire Police

It's that time of year again, when the clocks go back, Halloween costumes come out and we get ready to embrace the cold on Bonfire night!

As we get ready for half term, we are once again working with our partners South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and Yorkshire Ambulance service to run operation Dark Nights.

Halloween and Bonfire night can be an enjoyable time of the year, but for some people the festivities alongside the dark evenings can make them feel vulnerable. We know that this time of the year can cause particular concerns around antisocial behaviour in communities. We are asking you to be tolerant around this time as there may be more people on the streets in the evening, enjoying the celebrations, but there is nothing to suggest that antisocial behaviour increases at this time of the year.

Our campaign this year will focus on the demand on our emergency services during the Halloween and Bonfire period, as our call handlers tend to see a spike in calls over this period. Please think before calling 999 or 101 and keep our resources free for genuine emergencies.
