Cranfield Marston and Woburn Area Update

Alert message sent 24/10/2019 10:11:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Dear Residents

As is all too evident Autumn is well and truly here, clocks go back at the weekend and Halloween/Fireworks events are approaching.  This of course is a fun time for most but as always there will no doubt be a handful of people who aim to spoil these occasions by scaring vulnerable residents and setting off fireworks disregarding the safety of residents (and often themselves!).  In response to this there will be extra High Visibility patrols carried out by local Community Team officers including myself over this period.

This is a good time to have a think about your home security in readiness for the winter months. Home burglaries are rare but I must tell you that there are thieves operating in your area and they will take any opportunity to steal your hard earned possessions.
Make sure your security lighting is working, put away garden tools and make sure your sheds, garages and outbuildings are secure.  If you would like further information about protecting your home please get in touch.  Alternatively look out for my Community Surgeries where by you can pick up my crime prevention booklets, property marking kits and tamper proof screws.  My next surgery will be in Brogborough, I’ll be at the village hall car park on Saturday 9th November between 2/4pm.

In the last 2 weeks the Cranfield, Marston and Woburn area had 17 reported thefts, these mostly consist of fuel thefts – diesel especially.   Other (and attempted) thefts include theft from outbuildings and vehicles.  As you may well be aware I share an office (more of a cupboard) with the Ampthill, Flitwick and Silose area officer based at Ampthill Fire Station.  Just as a comparison that area saw 38 theft offences during the same period.  We cannot be complacent though, keep any eye out for anything or anyone that looks suspicious and call us on 101 or 999 if necessary.  We would much rather check it out and it be nothing than not know about it at all.

I’ve also had some information from the Marston area that thieves seem to be on the lookout for dogs.  Now whilst no thefts have actually been reported please be mindful where you leave your pets, preferably do not leave them unattended.

Next week I’ll be attending some training on Counter Terrorism and I’ll be meeting with my Housing Authority and C.B.C Community Safety partners looking at ways in which we can work together to improve the quality of life for local residents–each partner has its own speciality but together we achieve better outcomes.

As always if there is anything I can help with or you’d like further information please get in touch in the usual way.

Kind regards
Gill
