Halloween Fireworks and Half Term

Alert message sent 23/10/2019 10:54:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Good Morning Citizen

October half term is nearly upon on us and with that comes Halloween and shortly after, Bonfire Night.

I am aware that there have been calls and reports of incidents of youths lighting fireworks in the area, especially in Park Lane, Manby Road and surrounding streets of Castle Vale.

Throughout the next couple of weeks, the team will be working as hard as possible to try and patrol the entire area especially during the evening when it is dark. We have a dedicated ASB car for each day that we are working that will be primarily attending calls of an ASB/firework nature.

As well as this, officers have scheduled in schools visits at Schools in the area to deliver safety talks to pupils, we are working with partnership agencies and will be patrolling school finish times as the schools finish for half term to ensure there are no flashpoints.

Officers have visited the shops in the area that have licences to sell Fireworks to ensure that they are complying with the laws on selling fireworks and test purchasing will be taking place.

I would like to direct you to the West Midlands police website which helps provide information on the laws surrounding fireworks and ways to reports incidents:

The important message is that if there is a real time emergency involving fireworks, please call 999.

Please contact us if you have any issues that you think we may be able to help with in the community related to any of the above topics.

Lastly, I hope you all stay safe and enjoy any Halloween or Fireworks events that you are attending.

Regards

Sgt Edkins
