Bonfire Safety

Alert message sent 18/10/2019 08:55:00

Information sent on behalf of West Yorkshire Police

Good morning Citizen,

Officers will be carrying out extra patrols in your area to keep you safe, but there are a number of steps you can take to ensure a great Bonfire Night.

•    An organised display is the safest way to enjoy fireworks. Public bonfires organised by Leeds City Council will be held in East End Park, Roundhay Park, Woodhouse Moor, Springhead Park Rothwell, Middleton Park and Bramley Park.

•    It is an offence for anyone under the age of 18 to buy fireworks. You can be fined or imprisoned for buying or using fireworks illegally.

•    Even at home, it is an offence to let fireworks off between 11pm and 7am except on 5th November, when the cut off is midnight.

•    It is an offence to set off fireworks in a public place, which includes the street, parks and open land.

•    Where the police believe it is necessary, a direction to leave a locality may be given under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act. This may be done to reduce the likelihood of harassment, alarm or distress, or to deal with crime and disorder.

Anyone acting in such a manner may also be taken home, or taken to any other place of safety.

The order may exclude any person from returning to the area for up to 48 hours. A failure to leave, or returning within the period of exclusion, is an offence and may result in arrest and prosecution.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Kind regards,

NSO Shaw.
