We are still seeing a number of Rogue Traders out and about, please remember not to buy from cold callers to your door. Not all callers are genuine. We have seen a number of recent offences in the Netherton area over the last few weeks.

As well as being aware yourself, please keep an eye on older neighbours and family members who might not be aware and may be vulnerable to the techniques doorstop sellers use.

Doorstep selling involves fraudsters knocking at your door and trying to sell you something that you often don’t need or work to be carried out on your home or garden.

Many honest businesses legitimately use the doorstep selling technique and it can be a convenient way of buying goods. However, this becomes an issue if the sales person uses pressure tactics to trick you into buying something you don’t want or need, or is poor value for money.

These sellers usually try to catch you off-guard and appear polite and persuasive, whilst rushing you to make a decision. They also tend to target vulnerable people who live alone.

If a doorstop seller won’t go away after you’ve said no, you can report this to us online, by calling 101 or by reporting them to Trading Standards or Action Fraud.

For further advice and information on how to protect yourself from doorstop scammers, visit the Action Fraud website.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting the relevant crime number or visit www.contactcambspolice.uk/Report/. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
