Scotland Census 2021 Rehearsal

Alert message sent 08/10/2019 12:19:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

A rehearsal for Scotlands Census 2021 is planned to take place on 13 October 2019, with people living in parts of Glasgow City and in Dumfries and Galloway and Na h-Eileanan Siar, asked to help by taking part.

The Scottish Government and other public bodies use census information to help make decisions including how money will be spent on the schools where our children are educated, the roads we drive on every day and the hospitals we all rely on – and the census rehearsal helps make sure the next census, planned for 21 March 2021, runs smoothly.

We are aiming to make the 2021 Census more digital and accessible, available for completion online, as well as on paper. The rehearsal will help us test our systems and process as we get ready for the census.

Unlike the Census itself, participation in the rehearsal is not a legal requirement. We are asking householders in these areas to help us on a purely voluntary basis so that we can ensure things go smoothly for the census.

Initial contact letters will be delivered to 72,000 households in the rehearsal areas from 7 October 2019.  This will be followed up by two reminder letters which will be issued around 23 October 2019 and 28 October 2019.

A helpline to assist those filling in their rehearsal return will open on 7 October 2019 and will close on 7 November 2019. The number is 0800 030 8333.
