Truecall Call Blocking Devices

Alert message sent 07/10/2019 09:32:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE TRADING STANDARDS ARE OFFERING A NUMBER OF FREE CALL BLOCKING DEVICES TO RESIDENTS THAT MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA WHICH INCLUDES PEOPLE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA AND PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING A HIGH NUMBER OF NUISANCE PHONE CALLS.

The initiative aims to combat the problem of nuisance and scam phone calls, which are often targeted at elderly and vulnerable members of the community.

The call blockers prevent unknown numbers from ringing through to residents telephones. Not having to deal with cold callers and potential scammers will save local people from stress, upset and possible financial harm.  For many residents, the phone is their only link to the outside world.  The call blocker equipment will enable residents to make sure that only calls from friends, family and other known and trusted callers get through.  Residents with the device can choose who gets through by banning unrecognised callers or asking them to identify themselves before being connected.

If you are interested in receiving a call blocker or know someone that would benefit from one, please contact Trading Standards at trading.standards@west-dunbarton.gov.uk or call 0141 951 7957.

Each person who expresses an interest will be assessed against the relevant criteria.
A limited number of call blocking devices are available.
