Warning that drivers ignoring no entry sign could see enforceable actions

Alert message sent 18/09/2019 13:27:00

Information sent on behalf of Gloucestershire Constabulary

The Cheltenham Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to remind the public that ignoring the no entry sign on Fairview Road could now result in enforceable action.

Anyone who ignores the sign could receive an enforceable ticket, fine of £100 or three points on their licence.

Recently misuse of the sign and nearby junction was reported to us after residents became concerned that drivers were ignoring the sign and using the road as a shortcut.

Work to monitor this has seen the introduction of warning notices following a survey which was conducted in the area in August 2018 as well as the setting up of a community speed watch campaign.

Sergeant Julia Martin-Jones said "My team are here to help keep the community safe and with Holy Trinity Primary School around the corner there are obvious safety concerns that I would like to reduce.

"Officers will continue to work with the local community to educate drivers about the sign and also ensure that warning notices or enforcement notices are issued to repeat offenders.

“Last year a survey was conducted which saw an average of 80 drivers ignore the sign per day and I hope that the knowledge of potentially receiving a ticket, fine or points on your licence will see drivers rethink their ways."
