Local News Update

Dear Town Ward resident,

In May residents began raising concerns about anti-social behaviour and drug dealing in the Market Hill area. Over the last three months your local policing team and Ongo's housing officers have taken action to resolve these issues.

Anti Social Behaviour

1) Ongo and Safer Neighbourhoods joined us on two days of action to survey residents and listen to their problems so we can act together to solve them;

2) We have visited problem addresses with Ongo three times to speak to those concerned to make sure people are safe or warn offenders that further action will be taken if problems continue;

3) Ongo have changed the locks on a number of properties to prevent unwanted people accessing vulnerable residents' flats;

4) Formally warned two people to stay away from the area through Community Protection Warnings and Notices to keep residents safe. Breaches of these notices are now being investigated.

Drug Dealing

1) Police patrols have been conducted on a regular basis at various times of day to deter or stop drug dealing;

2) The owners of the now closed CC's Bar have been contacted to make the property more secure to prevent people accessing the property;

3) Suspicious vehicles near the garages have been checked and challenged where found.

Reports of issues to the police have decreased and we hope this is due to a decrease in anti social behaviour. We will continue to direct patrols to the area and follow up on the information residents have given us.

Please report crime or suspicious behaviour to the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. You can pass information completely anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111. You can also report ongoing problems to Ongo on 01724 279900 or through their Live Chat on their website.
